Equip

At A Life of My Own we focus on collaborating with clients - helping them build on strengths, strategize for difficulties, and gain confidence in their abilities. If you are looking to develop independence in one or many areas (i.e. independent living skills, school or work success, transitioning, executive functioning, avoiding burnout / implementing self care practices, or a host of others), we can work with you to get you on your way!

Coaching in the Equip phase starts with realizing one’s strengths and how to leverage them for success. More often than not, this phase also includes instruction and insight for parents so that the team is on the same page, and is thus better able to work collaboratively on moving forward.

Individualized coaching is accomplished via videoconference which was intentionally chosen. We have been using this as the primary coaching method for over three years. The benefit for young adults has been seen repeatedly: being in your own setting significantly reduces anxiety, not having to get to another location saves energy that can be better used in the coaching session, and controlling your own environment allows for improved focus. And now, in the COVID-19 world and beyond, being videoconference savvy is more important than ever before.

With a blend of tried and true practices, along with innovative methods, A Life of my Own advocates for building self-determination in all of our clients. We want to give you the tools to be successful not only with your current goal, but also to use these techniques for success far beyond your participation in our coaching sessions.

The Equip stage often also explores accommodations and how to transition from K-12 or a program that did not have the ‘right fit’ to your next stage allowing you to successfully move forward. We feel this is a huge part in facilitating independence and instilling confidence - that will be of vital importance for success as an adult.
